About La Romana

The semi-rural area of La Romana is known for its local wine and marble production and has a thriving community of both English and Spanish residents. Located in the foothills of the Sierra del Redclot a few kilometres from Alguena, La Romana has a population of 2000, and is surrounded by lovely countryside with vineyards and almond orchards. La Romana is popular with expatriates looking for a quiet, ruraI home and the village has its own surgery and doctor, and in nearby Novelda there is a 24 hour Clinic. The main Hospital is in Elda just 20 minutes away and gives excellent service. Visitors to the area can get free health service using their European Medical Card
La Romana is very well provided for with supermarkets, bakers, butchers, hardware, furniture and electrical shops along with two Chemists. There is also an excellent Saturday market for fruit and vegetables etc.
A communal swimming pool is set in beautiful wooded parkland on the edge of the village, along with Tennis, Paddle Tennis and Basketball courts, a football pitch and indoor gym.
The area also hosts many beautiful walks and cycling tracks, as well as several horse riding stables situated nearby.

In August La Romana celebrates the Moors and Christians celebration, it is a spectacular event and the villagers take a whole year to prepare, it is an amazing parade. In September the Town Hall gives a fiesta in the park, with a huge paella followed by music and dancing, everyone is invited and it is all free!!
Within 20 minutes drive of La Romana there is an excellent Golf Course, Alenda Golf and Novelda and Aspe are larger towns with supermarkets and shops and many interesting places to visit.
Elche is 20 minutes away and is a city worth exploring, with its famous palm tree gardens and a wealth of historic buildings. Alicante is only 30 minutes where there are magnificent beaches and shopping galore, and of course the nearby airport
There are buses every hour from La Romana to surrounding towns and Alicante. Trains leave from Novelda to all towns and major cities.
